Summary of Albion Works:

  • Drilling and blasting for road improvement scheme on N7
  • Drilling and blasting over 2.2 million m³
  • 800 tonnes of explosive
  • Up to 5 No. L6 and D7 drill rigs on site

RAC – Eire were working for the Bothar Hibernia Consortium as earthworks contractors, to upgrade a stretch of road to a motorway from Limerick to Nenagh and to construct the Nenagh bypass.

The Albion Group were involved in 2 parts of the job:

    • Drilling and blasting a borrow pit for Bothar Hibernian.

    • Drilling and blasting for the road construction for RAC – Eire.

We were contracted to drill and blast 1million cubic metres in a borrow pit. This was in an environmentally sensitive area located close to properties and the local school.

We used various drilling and blasting techniques, which ensured that the vibration levels were kept below specified limits for all the adjacent buildings.

We were also contracted to create road cuttings for the project. This involved drilling and blasting 2.4million m³ of rock cutting with an output of 30,000 m³ per week.

We had to overcome problems associated with adjacent housing, roads and in some areas overhead power lines.

Both projects were completed without incident, on-schedule and on-budget.
